Our Parish History History

Our Parish is one of the 32 Parishes of Kasana-Luweero Diocese, established in 2022. We were cut off from both St. Bruno Sserunkuuma Kikyusa and Our Lady of Lourdes Nakasongola Parishes respectively. Each of the above Parishes contributed Sub-Parishes that made up the New parish of Kamira, with 4 Zones and 20 Sub-Parishes.

We are entrusted to the Patronage of St. Charles Lwanga, one of the 22 Uganda Martyrs canonized by Pope Paul VI, on 18th October 1964. We were officially inaugurated a Parish on Sunday 11th February 2022, by Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere, then Bishop of Kasana-Luweero. Fr. Bernald Ssubi became our First Parish Priest. He was duly installed as our Founding Father. Fr. John Baptist Lakonyero became his Assistant Priest. The Parish took on the name St. Charles Lwanga from our Patron Saint and Jubilee, for having been officially opened during the Silver jubilee Celebrations of Kasana-Luweero diocese.

Our Patron Saint

He was martyred by a slow fire on June 3, 1886, for refusing to renounce his Christian Faith, alongside 21 other Catholic and Anglican Martyrs. Lwanga was known for his unwavering faith, his role in secretly baptizing others, and his prayerful death for his executioners’ conversion. He was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1964 and is now the Patron Saint of African Catholic Youth and converts.
