Parish Ministries

At St. Charles Lwanga Kamira Parish, every baptized Christian is called to serve. Our ministries are the heartbeat of our community — places where faith becomes action, and where each person’s gifts are used for the growth of the Church and the service of God’s people. Below are the main ministries and apostolates that help our parish live out its mission of prayer, evangelization, and charity.

1. Liturgical and Worship Ministry

This ministry coordinates all liturgical celebrations and ensures that our worship is prayerful, dignified, and participatory. It includes sacristans, lectors, altar servers, choirs, ushers, and decorators who prepare the church for Mass, lead singing, assist the priest, and help the faithful encounter God through meaningful liturgy.

2. Catechesis and Faith Formation

This ministry forms the foundation of Christian education in the parish. Catechists instruct children, youth, and adults in the faith and prepare them for the sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist, Confirmation, and Marriage. They also guide Bible study, faith-sharing groups, and adult catechumenate (RCIA) programs.

3. Small Christian Communities (SCCs)

Our parish is divided into Small Christian Communities, where families meet weekly in their neighborhoods to pray, share the Word of God, and support one another. These groups strengthen unity and enable members to practice their faith in daily life through prayer, mutual help, and outreach.

4. Caritas and Social Services

This ministry puts faith into action by serving those in need. Guided by the principles of Caritas Uganda, members assist the poor, visit the sick, support widows, orphans, and vulnerable families, and promote development projects within the parish. They are the hands of Christ’s love and mercy.

5. Finance and Stewardship Committee

Responsible for promoting accountability and good stewardship, this committee manages parish finances, prepares budgets, and organizes fundraising activities. It also teaches parishioners to share their time, talents, and treasure for the mission of the Church.

6. Construction and Maintenance Committee

This team ensures the proper care and development of parish property — church buildings, priests’ residence, halls, and grounds. They oversee construction projects, repairs, and general maintenance, helping our parish remain a beautiful and welcoming place of worship.

7. Youth Ministry

The youth are the hope and energy of our parish. This ministry gathers young people for spiritual formation, leadership training, and social engagement. It organizes youth Masses, music festivals, retreats, and sports activities that help the young grow in faith and service.

8. Women’s Apostolate

The women’s ministry brings together mothers and young women for prayer, fellowship, and community service. They promote family values, care for the needy, and engage in income-generating projects that strengthen both faith and family life.

9. Men’s Apostolate

This group encourages men to live out their Christian vocation as leaders in the Church, the family, and society. They participate actively in parish projects, support liturgical functions, and promote moral and spiritual growth among fathers and husbands.

10. Family and Marriage Ministry

This ministry promotes Christian family life through marriage preparation, counseling, and ongoing formation for couples. It supports families in challenges and celebrates milestones in family life as signs of God’s faithfulness.

11. Evangelization and Missionary Outreach

Inspired by the Uganda Martyrs, this ministry carries the Gospel beyond the church walls. Members organize home visits, missions, and outreach to those who have fallen away from the faith. They remind all that the Church exists to evangelize.

12. Legion of Mary and Other Devotional Groups

The Legion of Mary and similar prayer groups promote devotion to Our Lady and foster a spirit of prayer and service. Members visit the sick, lead rosaries, and encourage deeper faith through personal witness and communal prayer.

13. Bereavement and Funeral Ministry

This compassionate group accompanies families in moments of loss. They help organize funeral liturgies, offer prayers for the deceased, and comfort the bereaved with hope in the resurrection.

14. Prison and Hospital Ministry

In the spirit of mercy, members visit those in prisons and hospitals, offering prayers, spiritual guidance, and practical support. They remind the suffering that the Church has not forgotten them.

15. Media and Communication Ministry

This ministry manages parish information — announcements, social media, newsletters, and livestreaming. It ensures that the Good News and parish updates reach all members near and far, using modern technology to connect and evangelize.

16. Music and Choir Ministry

Music uplifts the soul and draws hearts closer to God. The choir ministry leads singing during Mass and parish celebrations, trains choristers, and promotes liturgical music that inspires prayer and unity.

17. Environmental and Creation Care Ministry

Following the call of Pope Francis in Laudato Si’, this ministry promotes respect for God’s creation. Members organize tree planting, clean-up campaigns, and environmental education in schools and communities, reminding all that caring for the earth is a holy duty.

18. Sports and Recreation Ministry

Through sports, games, and cultural activities, this ministry builds teamwork, discipline, and joy in parish life. It brings people together, especially the youth, and helps them grow in friendship and Christian values.

Conclusion

Through these ministries, St. Charles Lwanga Kamira Parish continues to grow as a vibrant, missionary community of faith. Every parishioner is invited to join at least one ministry — for it is in serving others that we truly serve Christ. Together, we build a living Church rooted in prayer, unity, and love.
